Subscribe to a discussion group forum exclusively for ALA Silicon Valley Chapter members in the ALA Online Community at community.alanet.org.

HOW TO SUBSCRIBE:

All current chapter members are automatically subscribed to the listserve. You will need to log in to set your notification preferences and post.

HOW TO SEND MESSAGES: 

  • To post, log into alanet.org and select the orange icon with "3 heads" in the top-middle of the page. Or go to community.alanet.org.
  • Begin posting in the box that says "Post a Message to the Community." Ask a question, post an article, or create a poll. 
  • On the left, select Chapter: Silicon Valley.
  • Select the 3-dot ellipses to get a drop-down menu and select MANAGE NOTIFICATIONS to select delivery: Realtime, Daily, or Weekly.
  • Your message will be distributed to every subscriber to the list.
  • Be sure to provide a meaningful description of your topic in the “subject” line.
  • Change the subject line if you switch topics.


HOW TO REPLY TO A MESSAGE:
 

  • Reply using the GO TO LINK in the email notification, which will bring up the website to log in.
  • If you want to reply only to the person who sent the message, select the person’s name then select the chat box to the right of the name and type in your comment.
  • Change the subject line if you switch topics. Please keep discussion threads “on topic” according to the subject line and start a new conversation if the topic changes during the discussion.

 

NEW! IMPORTANT NOTE: The email address on Yahoo! Groups and ALA's old listserve platform at [email protected] no longer works. You must log into the ALA HQ website in order to post to the ALASVC listserve.

PURPOSE AND ANTITRUST LAW: The discussion group is set up for the sole purpose of sharing information and can be used to solicit best practices and ask legal management-related questions from your fellow chapter members.

Questions related to billing rates, compensation, or other rates are strictly prohibited from discussion according to ALA guidelines to avoid violating antitrust/price-fixing laws. Please review the Antitrust Guide for Members of the Association of Legal Administrators.

RESTRICTED ACCESS: This discussion group is exclusive to chapter members.

DISCUSSION GROUP GUIDELINES: The Chapter wants to protect the rights of all discussion group users, comply with copyright and other regulations, and prevent violations of the law. Therefore, by participating in the discussion group you agree to abide by the following guidelines and agree to the disclaimer appearing at the end of this document.

  • Always check the “To” address line before composing a reply to be certain your message will be sent to your intended recipient.
  • To maintain the confidentiality of discussions here, do not forward discussion group messages or threads to others.
  • This is a discussion group where opinions are welcome but challenging or attacking others is not.
  • Do not post commercial messages or defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials.
  • Do not post information or other material protected by copyright without the permission of the copyright owner. By posting material, the posting party warrants and represents that she/he owns the copyright or has received permission from the copyright owner.
